Your Safety Is Our Priority

Before sedation is administered, our team will review your medical history and current health to help decide if you are a good candidate. During IV sedation, your vital signs, including heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure, are continuously monitored. Because sedation can cause lingering drowsiness, patients must arrange for someone to drive them home and should not drive for 24 hours after treatment.

Comfort-Focused Sedation and Care

We believe dental care should feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. CarolinasDentist Sedation and Implant Dentistry features private treatment rooms and thoughtful amenities, including aromatherapy, warm blankets, noise-canceling headphones, and complimentary refreshments. Sedation dentistry can also help eligible patients feel more relaxed during treatment. From your initial consultation through your procedure(s) and follow-up care, our team is committed to providing a calm, positive experience.

Dental Implant Treatment Options

Single-Tooth Dental Implants

A single dental implant can replace one missing tooth without requiring neighboring teeth to support the restoration. An implant post is placed in the jaw and restored with a custom dental crown.

  • Best suited for: Replacing one missing tooth
  • Number of implants: One implant per missing tooth
  • Restoration: Individual dental crown
  • Removability: Not removable by the patient
  • Maintenance: Regular brushing, flossing, and professional dental care

Multiple-Tooth Dental Implants

When several teeth are missing, multiple implants can support a bridge or a row of replacement teeth. This provides stability while restoring the function and appearance of your smile.

  • Best suited for: Replacing several missing teeth
  • Number of implants: Based on the number and location of missing teeth
  • Restoration: Individual crowns or an implant-supported bridge
  • Removability: Typically not removable by the patient
  • Maintenance: Similar to caring for natural teeth, with specialized cleaning around implants

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures use dental implants to stabilize a removable denture. This can help reduce slipping and improve comfort while eating and speaking.

  • Best suited for: Replacing an entire arch of missing teeth
  • Number of implants: Typically 2โ€“6 implants per arch
  • Restoration: Removable overdenture
  • Removability: Designed to be removed by the patient
  • Maintenance: Requires denture care and regular dental visits

All-on-X Dental Implants

All-on-X dental implants can replace an entire arch of missing teeth using a strategically placed set of implants to support a full-arch restoration. This option can provide a secure, comprehensive solution for patients missing most or all of their teeth.

  • Best suited for: Replacing most or all teeth in an arch
  • Number of implants: Typically 4โ€“6 implants per arch
  • Restoration: Full-arch fixed prosthesis
  • Removability: Generally not removed by the patient
  • Maintenance: Requires professional cleanings and daily home care

Relaxing Sedation Dentistry

Advanced restorative work can involve multiple steps, and some patients may feel nervous about longer or more involved procedures. Sedation can help patients who experience dental anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, have difficulty sitting still, or are concerned about discomfort.

CarolinasDentist Sedation and Implant Dentistry offers IV sedation administered and monitored by an in-house anesthesiologist. Sedation can help you feel calm and relaxed during treatment and may create a period of amnesia, meaning you may have little or no memory of the procedure afterward.

While many of our practices offer nitrous oxide, IV sedation services are only available at this specific Wilmington location. Our dental team will review your health history, medications, and treatment needs to ascertain if dental sedation is appropriate for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get dental implants with sedation?

Yes. Sedation may be an option for eligible patients who are receiving dental implants and are concerned about dental anxiety, discomfort, or the length of treatment. Your dentist will determine whether sedation is appropriate based on your health and procedure.

What types of dental implants does CarolinasDentist offer?

CarolinasDentist offers single-tooth implants, multiple-tooth implant restorations, implant-supported dentures, and All-on-X dental implants. The right option depends on how many teeth you are missing, your oral health, and your treatment goals.

How long does the dental implant process take?

The implant process typically takes several weeks or longer because the implant needs time to fuse with the jawbone before the final restoration is placed. Your dentist will explain your expected timeline during your consultation.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Our team will evaluate your oral and overall health, jawbone strength, and other factors to help you decide if dental implants are appropriate for your dental preferences and needs. If you have experienced bone loss, additional treatment may be recommended before implant placement.

Where is sedation dentistry available?

IV sedation services are available exclusively at the CarolinasDentist Wilmington โ€“ The Pointe location. Patients interested in dental implants with IV sedation can discuss their treatment and sedation options during their consultation.

Joanie was very understanding of my dental anxieties. Dr. Davis was kind and welcoming as well. This was my first appointment with them, recommended by a friend. I signed up for their yearly in-house dental plan and scheduled my next visit.

The entire staff at this office is professional, kind and respectful. I did not have to wait in the waiting room for more than 5 minutes. When I was brought back to the exam area, I was greeted by a lovely young woman by the name of Molly. Molly went step by step with me what was going to take place.Dr. Nolan Bodah entered the room and was extremely professional and patient with me. He discussed the procedure of having a crown placed and the step by step process. He could tell I was nervous and assured me that everything was going to go smoothly.Dr. Bodah and Molly kept asking if I was doing ok and explained to me how much longer it would be until the procedure was complete. From the minute I arrived until I left my appt the staff was outstanding. ALL Of THEM!I would highly recommend Dr. Bodah and his staff!
