Dental Filling FAQs

Tooth-colored fillings offer a natural appearance, blending seamlessly with your teeth for a discreet restoration. Made of durable composite resin, they provide strong, long-lasting protection against further decay. These fillings also require less removal of natural tooth structure compared to metal fillings, preserving more of your tooth. Additionally, they bond directly to the tooth, adding strength and stability while ensuring a comfortable, attractive, and effective solution for treating cavities.

Composite fillings can last up to 10 years or longer, depending on factors like oral hygiene, eating habits, and the location of the filling. Fillings on back teeth that endure more chewing pressure may wear out sooner. With proper care, including regular dental checkups, daily brushing, and flossing, composite fillings can remain strong and effective for many years, helping to protect your teeth from further damage or decay.

Signs of tooth decay include tooth sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweet foods, visible holes or dark spots on your teeth, persistent toothaches, and pain when biting or chewing. You may also notice bad breath or a bad taste in your mouth. If decay progresses, it can lead to swollen gums or abscesses. Regular dental checkups are crucial for detecting tooth decay early, often before symptoms become severe.

You may need a filling replaced if you notice signs like sensitivity, a loose or cracked filling, discoloration around the filling, or pain when biting. Old fillings can wear down, allowing bacteria to seep in and cause further decay. Regular dental checkups are essential, as your dentist can identify issues with your fillings before they become problematic, ensuring your teeth remain healthy and protected.
