Implant-Supported Dentures in North Carolina

imp-dentures-1

If you are missing several or all of your teeth, traditional dentures are not your only option. Implant-supported dentures combine the tooth replacement benefits of dentures with the stability of dental implants. Also called overdentures or snap-in dentures, these restorations are secured to dental implants placed in your jawbone. This can help reduce slipping and movement while making it easier to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.

Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums, implant-supported dentures are anchored to implants. Depending on your needs, your dentist may recommend a removable restoration or a more permanent full-arch solution. If you have been searching for “implant dentures near me,” an evaluation with your nearest CarolinasDentist location can help determine which option is best for your smile, oral health, and goals.

How Implant-Supported Dentures Work

Implant-supported dentures use dental implants as anchors for a custom denture. The process generally includes:

    • Consultation and planning: Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, and jawbone and may use digital X-rays or 3D imaging to plan treatment.
    • Implant placement: Several dental implants are strategically placed in the jaw to provide support for the denture.
    • Healing: The implants are given time to integrate with the surrounding bone and become stable anchors.
    • Denture attachment: A custom denture is created to fit your mouth and connect to the implants.
    • Daily use: Removable denture implants can be snapped securely into place and removed when needed for cleaning and maintenance.

Implant-Supported Dentures vs. All-on-X Dental Implant

Both treatments can replace an entire arch of missing teeth using dental implants, but they are not exactly the same. Implant-supported dentures are often designed to be removable. Patients can take them out for cleaning and generally remove them at night.

All-on-X dental implants, on the other hand, typically support a fixed full-arch restoration that is designed to remain in place. The best choice for you depends on factors such as your bone health, oral anatomy, lifestyle, budget, and treatment goals. Your dentist can explain the differences and help you choose the appropriate solution for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are implant-supported dentures the same as implants?

No. Dental implants and implant-supported dentures are two different parts of the treatment. The implants are small posts placed into the jawbone that act as anchors. The denture is the prosthetic restoration that replaces the missing teeth and attaches to those implants. Together, they create a more secure tooth replacement system.

Do you take implant-supported dentures out at night?

If you have removable implant-supported dentures, you will generally take them out at night. Removing them allows you to clean the denture and your mouth thoroughly and gives your gums a break. Fixed full-arch restorations, such as many All-on-X treatments, are not designed to be removed by the patient.

Do I still have to go to the dentist with full-arch implant-supported dentures?

Yes. Regular dental visits remain important even after you have replaced all of your teeth. Our team will check the health of your gums and implants, evaluate how your restoration fits, and professionally clean areas that can be difficult to reach at home. Routine visits can also help identify problems early and extend the life of your restoration.

Do implant-supported dentures cover the roof of your mouth?

They do not always have to. Traditional upper dentures often cover much of the palate to create suction and stability. Depending on the design and number of implants, implant-supported upper dentures can often be made with a reduced palate or an open-palate design. Your dentist will recommend a design based on your anatomy and the amount of support available.

What happens to your face after getting implant-supported dentures?

Replacing missing teeth can restore support to the lips and cheeks and help improve facial appearance. Implant-supported dentures may also help preserve jawbone structure by transferring chewing forces to the implants. As a result, some patients notice a fuller, more natural-looking facial appearance after treatment. The exact changes vary depending on how much bone and tooth structure was lost before treatment.

We have been with this practice for about 3 years and love everyone here. They have the best hygienists, dentists, and administrative team.We recently went through several weeks of myofunctional therapy with Nycole and could not be happier. She is fun, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable in her field, AND we saw a ton of progress after all was said and done. I would recommend Carolina’s Dentist to anyone and am thankful we found them.

No one likes having a tooth pulled, but this morning Dr Diskin and Hayley did an awesome job reassuring me, explaining the procedure and follow up options- The procedure was essentially pain free and quick. I hope I don’t need to do this again but if I do, I know I will have great care

I really appreciate Dr Johnson, and the staff at Carolinas Dentist. They have an honest, human and conservative approach which makes me very comfortable compared to some dentists I’ve contacted in WNC. I originally came because they accepted my insurance, and I am still coming without insurance. I had a crown break and they were able to get me in same day and have the crown repaired with me out the door in 1-hr— amazing! This is the only dentist where I can call and get an appointment within a few days in a pinch. I also want to shout out Tenisha who is a bright light and made me smile and laugh as we were getting every thing ready for the doctor.
