Gentle Dental Extractions
Sometimes, a tooth extraction is necessary because you need to preserve your dental health. This could be because of severe infection from decay, serious damage from an injury, or overcrowding. We’ll look into all other options beforehand, but if you require an extraction, we’ll make sure you’re kept completely comfortable throughout the procedure and give you aftercare guidelines to ensure a speedy recovery. We’re also happy to discuss your tooth replacement options afterward as well. If you’re healthy enough for an extraction, chances are good that you’re healthy enough for a replacement. How will I know if I need a dental extraction?
Our team practices conservative dentistry, so we try to reserve more invasive procedures like dental extractions for cases in which there are no better alternatives for the patient. There is really no way for patients to know if they need a dental extraction on their own, so if you are experiencing severe tooth pain or one or more teeth have been greatly damaged, we recommend scheduling a visit with our team so we can offer a custom diagnosis.
Can I return to work or school after a dental extraction?
Dental extractions are advanced surgical procedures, so patients should always plan to rest and recover post-treatment. You will likely not feel like doing too much, and too much activity too soon can cause complications with your healing process as well. The amount of time that you will need to take off from your normal routine will depend on how many teeth you are having extracted, and our team can help you estimate when you will be able to return to school and/or work.
What happens if I don’t get a dental extraction?
If a dental extraction is added to your treatment plan, we recommend scheduling your procedure sooner rather than later. If a tooth needs to be removed due to decay and dental trauma, you may experience unnecessary pain and discomfort, and an infection can develop. Teeth that are crowding each other can cause dental damage and orthodontic issues as well.

I was going to the Carolina’s dentist spring lake and transferred to this office due to my provider leaving for another office and she was very accommodating. She told me that they were not taking my dental insurance at this time because it’s a military dental insurance and they are seeing a lot of military patients so it was on hold. I mentioned to her my severe dental anxiety issues and how my provider was leaving and I truly wanted to establish care. She did not hesitate to reach out to the manager of the office who approved me to transfer there despite they were not taking anymore patients at this time with my insurance. How amazing!
